MyWorld Tuesday

The pictures show Kasteel Hoensbroek one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. It is only a 5 minutes drive from our home. Our part of the country has a rich history. Our province (Limburg) has been occupied by almost any European tribe from Romans and even earlier tribes to Germans, French etc. That's why we are surrounded by castles. They were built by gentry or nobility to defend themselves from enemies. If you would like to know more about the castle please click here.
The castle contains over 60 rooms and is now used as an official marriage location, for conferences,as a museum, for parties etc. I am not sure if there are families living in the castle nowadays. I remember that a few families lived there some decades ago among which was a welknown Dutch writer: Bertus Aafjes.

Your world is beautiful -- and full of history. My World this week was kind of just the opposite -- so I really enjoyed sharing yours.
thank you!

Beautiful shots of the castle and an interesting post. I particularly love the shot where you can see the water and the castle.

Very beautiful castle. It is good to see that it is getting used and thus getting maintained.

My first thought, a lot of bricks went into that castle and my second is I don't see any people.
Your historical buildings are much more substantial than ours. Many old California buildings were made of unfired adobe bricks which have eroded away in years of rain.

Mooie foto's!

Fijne dag verder

Thanks for sharing a bit of history. In a small village in Germany I once asked an old woman why the old castle had been built on the hill. Without a pause she answered, "For protection from the neighbors of course!"
